16 goals in 2016 Update

Today is the last day of July, so it's about time I review my 16 goals in 2016. I made this list in January 2016 and I really need to look at this list to see my progresss.

iphone_photo

Here goes nothing....

1. Be more active
- I decided to buy fitbit alta last April and I am so glad that I did. This beautiful device really help me to move more. I have become obsess to complete 10,000 steps in a day goal. That really helps with my goal to be more active this year.

2. Read five books from my to be read pile
So far I have read Magpie by Mark Edwards and Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. I am not sure if I would read NYPF Red 3 and The Here and Now book. I have so many books that I wanted read and I think I sill can achieve five books on my to be read pile this year.

3. Read two non fiction books
I am glad to report that I have finished reading Getting Things Done by David Allen, Better than Before by Gretchen and Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. I tried to read the life changing art of tidying up but I just can't managed to finish it.

4. Implement Getting Things Done (GTD) methodology at work and at home
This is still a learning process for me. Some days I am very good at implementing GTD method and some day I am not. I hope to master this method by the end of the year especially at home.

5. Recite Quran at least 40 verses a day
So far I have managed to recite at least 20 verses a day and 40 verses if I recite the surah more than one time. I am hoping to reach this goal for the rest of the year because not I am already at the part where the verses are more shorter.

6. Utilise the planner that I have. Keep the current planner to three
I start the year with the intention to keep at least three planner active at one time. I am happy to report that I have managed to keep those planner - I am using mostly iPlanner on my iPad, filofax for work and erin condren life planner for everything else.

7. Choose photos from last year and print them out
I am glad that I have already started to print out photos from the beginning of the year to put in my Project Life album and in my journal.

8. Backup my digital photos and documents at least twice a month
I am trying so hard to remember backing up my photos at least twice a month. I don't know why I didn't put it in my planner. I just finished backing up my photos from April to July. I need to do a better job of keeping up with the latest backup my photos.

9. Go for quality
This is a little bit tricky. I tried to keep my purchased to a minimum by choose quality over quantity. This require a lot of research and only buy things that I really need. My biggest purchased this year would have be iPad Pro 9.7" and Apple Pencil. And this is the best investment I have ever made. Love this two product.

10. Save up for macbook air 13"
I am not sure if I will have enough to get one by September 2016. I have to push back this purchased until March 2017. Hopefully things will be so much better next year. (looking forward to PRU14 next year)

11. Make creativity as part of my daily routine
Being creative and consciously decide to be creative takes a lot of planning. I tried to do adult coloring but that didn't seem to pick up. I keep a journal and I try to write in them a few times in a week. I am hoping to do this on a daily basis but somehow it did not happened. I have to focus and choose only a few activities in creativity theme.

12. Write in my journal at least three times a week
I am happy that I have kept a journal until July even though not every single day. It's the best thing I have to get things out of my head. I tried brain dumping but I ended up not doing it regularly. I would very much like to do it for the rest of the year. Maybe doing brain dumping on weekly basis will be much more manageable.

13. Make scrapbook pages or Project life layouts at least three times a week
I have managed to keep up with Project life layouts weekly. Doing project life on my phone is so much more easier and simpler. I love it.

14. Doing some exercise at least four times a week - pick something that I enjoy doing
I am happy to report that I have a workout routine that I enjoy doing - 21 day fix and 21 day fix extreme.

15. Listen to Quran recital everyday before bed.
I tried to listen to Quran recital everyday but somehow that only happened a few times in a week. I know I can do better. I just need to remember to do it

16. Taking control of my monthly or yearly subscriptions.
I have lists down all of my subscription and now I know what I have, what I need and don't need. I will keep a close eye on this lists and review them for next year. I have terminate one subscription this year (Messy box has to go ) cause I just can't afford it anymore. Currency exchanged is way to high at the moment.

There you have it. My sixteen goals for twenty sixteen update. This is a good time to review them and look at what works and what's not working. It's time to make a few changes and tweaks to achieve those goals.

#thursday3 [28.07.2016]

This week moved by pretty quickly. We are already at the end of July. Wow! What a year!

HERE ARE MY PHOTO AND FACTS FOR THE WEEK

1. I am obsess with ipad lettering. I bought Procreate app just because I want to practice hand lettering with my ipad and apple pencil.

2. I am currently watching Gilmore Girls episodes for the fourth time. I am so excited with Gilmore Girls Reborn- can't wait to see that show on netflix

3. There are so many new movies coming out and I secretly wish I have the time and the energy to watch them all.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Think about it this way…If you take one picture and write down three facts each week — at the end of the year you’ll have more than 50 photos of yourself and 150 facts about what life has been like. It would make such an epic All About Me book — and most of the work is already done." - rukristin.com

End of Watch // the book review

I am so excited to read the third book of Bill Hodges series from Stephen King. I wanted to know how Stephen King is going to spin the Brady story. What I found out is a little more scary than I thought.
What the book is all about?

"The spectacular finale to the New York Times bestselling trilogy that began with Mr. Mercedes(winner of the Edgar Award) and Finders Keepers—In End of Watch, the diabolical “Mercedes Killer” drives his enemies to suicide, and if Bill Hodges and Holly Gibney don’t figure out a way to stop him, they’ll be victims themselves.

In Room 217 of the Lakes Region Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic, something has awakened. Something evil. Brady Hartsfield, perpetrator of the Mercedes Massacre, where eight people were killed and many more were badly injured, has been in the clinic for five years, in a vegetative state. According to his doctors, anything approaching a complete recovery is unlikely. But behind the drool and stare, Brady is awake, and in possession of deadly new powers that allow him to wreak unimaginable havoc without ever leaving his hospital room.

Retired police detective Bill Hodges, the unlikely hero of Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers, now runs an investigation agency with his partner, Holly Gibney—the woman who delivered the blow to Hartsfield’s head that put him on the brain injury ward. When Bill and Holly are called to a suicide scene with ties to the Mercedes Massacre, they find themselves pulled into their most dangerous case yet, one that will put their lives at risk, as well as those of Bill’s heroic young friend Jerome Robinson and his teenage sister, Barbara. Brady Hartsfield is back, and planning revenge not just on Hodges and his friends, but on an entire city.

In End of Watch, Stephen King brings the Hodges trilogy to a sublimely terrifying conclusion, combining the detective fiction of Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers with the heart-pounding, supernatural suspense that has been his bestselling trademark. The result is an unnerving look at human vulnerability and chilling suspense. No one does it better than King." excerpt from amazon.com

What do I think?

- you cannot read this book without reading the first two books of this trilogy. It's best of you read book one first and then book two. Other wise you will be totally lost in this book
- I just finished reading the book and I feel sad. That's how much invested I am with the character especially Bill Hodges. He is my dad age and reading about him makes me think of my dad
- the main theme discuss in this book is about suicide. I have never thought that suicide is happening a lot in this era. A lot of things can drive people to suicide and it's really scary when you think about it
- overall I think this book is an interesting read even though it's a bit long

I recommend this book if you like Stephen King book. It's definitely one of my favorite this year.

Part of cultivating a good life is to Show Up

Showing up has become my theme of the year after Ali Edward introduced the concept in her One Little Word class for 2016.

I felt that lately I have been going through motion of life automatically without thinking or planning. The normal routine has become part of my life that I seldom pay attention to it. Sometimes I felt like a lost a few days, months or even years. I cannot believe that my kids are grown up, I am almost 50 and my weight has been out of control.

It's about time I took control of my life. I like the idea of showing up. It's a sign that you are focus on what you are doing and be present for your own life.

So this year I intend to show up for ....

  • one little word monthly assignment. Actively invite focus into my life.
  • work. I need to find ways to be passionate about work again. So this year I intend to change the way we work.
  • fitness journey. I need to have a solid plan for making a healthy lifestyle changes. Make fitness a habit and design a plan for achieving that goal. It is not an easy thing to do because it requires a lot of planning for my body, my mind, my soul and for the food that I eat.
  • my kids. Talk to them and have one on one time with each and every one of them. It's not going to be easy when you kids are all grown up and wanted to be left a lone but I am sure going to try
  • journaling. Record my life as it happened no matter how small it was. Captured those moments on camera, print them out and journal about them.
  • home organization. I need to do something with my home. I have accumulate a lot of stuffs for over twenty three years and it's about time I get rid some of them. I wanted to try Konmari Method but the thought of getting over thing out my category really overwhelms me. I just can't do it.
  • cook healthy food. Part of my quest of healthy lifestyle is to eat healthy. I need to do a lot of research and find easy recipes to make to fuel my body. I am not good in this department but I am sure going to try my very best. I need to break the steps down into smaller tasks so that I would not be overwhelmed.

Erin Condren Life Planner 2016/2017

Last year I bought my first Erin Condren Life Planner 2015/2016 horizontal layout. I was so excited to made that purchased. I have no idea what I wanted to use the planner for. I have debating between a personal planner, a workout planner and a memory book. One thing for sure is I do enjoy the prosess of decorating my planner.

After a while I got a bit lazy and discourage to keep up with my Erin Condren planner. Ever since I bought an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil I basically ditched my other planner including Erin Condren Planner. I told myself that I was not going to buy the new planner . Oh boy! I just can't resist those beautiful layouts especially when they introduce the new neutral design. I love the neutral color. I can do pretty much anything with it.

So here I am holding my new Erin Condren Planner 2016/2017 horizontal layout in neutral. I love the new cover design, so beautiful and fit my personality perfectly.

I really like the new cover design with a place to write on the back.

I also like the quote pages before monthly layout . I can totally write things down here or even paste a few memories here.

I am testing out my pen in the weekly layout. My plan is to keep it very simple with lettering and minimal stickers. I am not going to change the color of this weekly spread into something different. I like them the way they are.
This new planner has a few note pages at the end of the planner for you to write things down.
And as always it comes with a sticker set.

So what am I going to use my old Erin Condren Planner? Of course. I will use my old Erin Condren planner for my workout journey for the rest of the year and document a few memories in there.

I am going to use my new Erin Condren for planning things other than Work and Fitness.

Use this link if you want to get $10 off your first purchased. If you love something pretty and no effort in decorating, then this planner is for you. Give it a try, you might like it.

HERE ARE MY PHOTO AND FACTS FOR THE WEEK

1. I caved in a bought the new Erin Condren planner 2016-2017 in neutral. I am in love with the new design.

5 lessons I learned from Seven Habits of Highly Effective People

I have read this book many years ago when I was a young executive and a young mother trying to make sense of everything. Back then life was so much simple, internet was just started and a lot of people were still scared of computer. The was relevant to my work life and my home life.

Eighteen years later, the world has changed and evolved from Industrial worker to information and knowledge worker, I decided to read Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey again and listen to the audiobook to see if the principle still relevant. Wow! I felt like reading the book for the first time. I've forgotten some of the things I learned in the book and some habits become more clear and more relevant now.

These are five lessons that I learned from the book

1. All seven habits are connected to each other
Before you can master habit Think Win/Win you need to master Habit 1, Habit 2 and Habit 3 . It took a proactive person to begin everything with the end in mind and to know the art of putting first thing first.

2. These are what Islam has taught us for centuries
We were taught that the purpose of our lives is to worship Allah, nothing less and nothing more. (Begin with the End in Mind). In order to do so we have to Be Proactive, do things that get us closer to Allah. Put First thing first is also the principle that was taught to us, every little things like wudu, there are rules and order that we have to follow. Reading this book has definitely make me closer and closer to Allah. Alhamdulillah

3. I understand Synergy better
Back then I was not so sure what Synergy really means. What does it mean by the sum is greater than it's individual part? Now I understand, synergy is celebrating our differences, work together as a team and finding a new and better ways of doing things. This definitely a habit that I would like to improve on.

4. I understand the important of Emotional Bank Account
I totally forgot about the emotional bank account. I am not the kind of person who can easily deposit to emotional bank account. I really need to improve the skill and technique to do so. The more you deposit into the Emotional bank account of that person the more easier it is to implement the Seven habits.

5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood
I think this habit is one of the hardest habit for me. Understanding other people is not an easy thing for me to do because I always feel misunderstood most of the time. I have a lot of internal issues that I need to resolve. By reading this book I have a better understanding about myself and all of the things that I need to do to improve and be a better person.

If you have not read the book or have read the book years ago, I highly recommend that you read this book again. This book might change your life!

Focus on health

I am obsessed with hitting 10,000 steps goal per day since April when I decided to invest in Fitbit Alta. Back then my main reason for getting the Fitbit Alta was to monitor my sleeping pattern but it has turn into an obsession.

I am very good with keeping up with the daily step goal but when Ramadan comes it gets harder and harder to reach 10,000 steps daily because I was not very active during the day and during the night I was busy with other stuffs.

When Syawal came it gets much more harder to reach the daily step goal and maintain my weight lost because I was not in my normal routine. Traveling and eating Eid foods have contributes to my sedentary routine and weight gain during long holidays.

I am happy that now I am finally on my normal routine. I am able to get back into my fitness routine and my normal eating habits. I decided to continue doing 21 day fix extreme Round 4 and T25 Focus Beta/Gamma daily. My goal is to increase my heart rate for at least 50 minutes daily.

I have successfully achieve my weight lost goal during Ramadan which is 56kg and in one week I have managed to gain 2 kg. So I decided to set a new goal which is to get my weight to 55kg by August. I think it's an achievable goal. I am thinking of doing Insanity Max 30 again after I have finished with 21 day fix extreme. I need to find a way to burn more calories without pushing my daily steps count to 16,000 daily. I might add heavier weight lifting program in the mix. I am thinking of doing Jari Love Get Ripped routine in the mix.

I am so glad that I have a planner for me to document my journey and write things down. I am also happy that I choose FOCUS as my one little word for this year. FOCUS really help me to get things done and achieve my goal one day at a time.

I am still not sure about calories in and calories out and how to control what I eat, I am still learning and discovering things about myself and the food that I consume. My next mission would be to create a healthy recipes for me.

So far I am feeling so much more happy and fit. I love my new lifestyle. Say YES to health and say YES to FITNESS.

Part of cultivating a good life is be happy

I am a happy person in general. I like happy and beautiful things. I am always looking for happy things and doing things that makes me happy.

Last week I was hit by a tornado - someone from my passed accused me of doing something bad years ago even though it was not true. These hurtful words can easily hurt me if I am not careful. I have a decision to make- I can either reply hurtful words back to that person and get suck back into their crazy world or I can ignore the accusations and decide to be happy instead (and make a police report to protect myself). After all happiness is a decision. Decide to be happy no matter what. Never give other people the permission or the power of your own happiness. This is the lesson that I have learned and it's not easy to do. It takes a lot of will power to control your reaction and your emotion when you feel like you have been wronged.

When life hit me with some lemon, I decide to make some lemonade.

These are a few things that I did to be happy instead of obsessing over revenge or something like it.

#1. Focus on Du`a - Allah is the one you turn to for help and guidance. I believe that Allah will protect me and help me when I am in despair. Du`a is where I find peace and happiness. Never put your faith in human, put your faith in Allah.

#2. Salaah Tawbah - The more pain and hardship you face in live try to be humble by praying. Pray Salaah Tawbah a lot because asking for forgiveness is a path to peace and happiness

#3. Forgiveness - Forgive others who have wronged you. Forgiveness is for your soul and your peace of mind. It's a recipe for a happy and peaceful life

#4. Recite Quran - the more you feel hurt and angry about other people, about life, the more verses of Quran you recite. Believe me there's no cure for your broken heart other than reciting the words from Allah. Quran is the medicine to feel happy and be happy

#5. Exercise - there's something about exercise that release a happy hormone. I can never be sad after a great workout. The more I exercise the more alive and happy I feel.

#6. Scrapbooking - this is one of the best therapy for me. Creative outlet for me to express myself. All those beautiful scrapbook kits can make me smile

#7. Journaling - the best way to release all of my negative emotions are through journaling. Writing things out or getting things out of my head can help me sleep at night. I don' t really like to keep bad emotion and bad thoughts on my mind for long because it really weighs me down. Journaling always help me to see things more clearly

#8. Watch Netflix or hulu - I can't never get enough of Netflix and hulu. Watching all those TV shows or movies can help me escape my reality a bit. It's a good way to see different perspective of life.

#9. Read a good book - I love reading. There's nothing like it

#10. Dance - Get your body moving to a rhythm can be therapeutic. Dance like no one's watching

.
.
.

HAPPINESS IS DECISION. DECIDE TO BE HAPPY
HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE. CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY
LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE HEARTBROKEN AND SAD

What do you usually do when things get hard, when life gets hard? Do you go for revenge or forgiveness?

Ramadandaily album 2016

Alhamdulillah this year I have managed to complete this album on time. I like looking back at my Ramadan journey. Ever Ramadan is different and every Ramadan is special.

I like putting in the photo of myself in the beginning of the album. It's a tradition that I would like to keep.

I did managed to write a few things on a journal card beside the photo.

Keeping my handwriting as part of the memory keeping is very important to me.

I still have a few cards still undocumented but I am not worried because I have documented them all on my blog.

I just realised that I have not put the last page card in this album. I am thinking of putting an Eid card in the empty slot.
