July Favorites

Untitled

JULY FAVORITES

  • This month is all about Ramadan. The best month of the year. I am excited that this year I decided to do #ramadandaily. A photo a day in Ramadan and document it.  I made another #ramadandaily photo prompt .
  • During Ramadan I used these 8 useful apps to help me managed my life better.
  • I do a book haul. This is my first book haul ever. And I am loving it. I totally forgot how exciting it was to buy books.
  • I also made this book wish lists for July. So far I only got an ebook version of the book. I somehow didn't have the time to haul books during Ramadan. I might make up hauling in August.
  • I am beyond excited that I got to finished reading three books in June and I've finished reading four books in July so far. Last year I can't even finished reading one book in a year. This is definitely a big accomplishment for me.
  • And I also finished Ignite Me in July. I love this book. It reminds me a lot of Twilight Series.
  • Finally I've print out my Project Life 2014 [Week 1 - Week 27]. I am so excited to have a hardcopy of my project. Something tangible I can hold and share with my children.

I hope you had an amazing July and discover many new favorites. I am looking forward to a beautiful August, True Blood, Pretty Little Liars and more photos for Project Life 2014.

August TBR [To Be Read]

August is just upon us. Since we are all in Eid mode, I decided to make an entry that has nothing to do with Eid. I am not sure if I can finished the 5th wave by the end of July but I am sure determine to finished it in early August.

Untitled

In the last book haul I bought a lot of books from various bookstore locally and also from amazon.com. So before I buy more books in August I am sure intend to read some of the books I bought in August. I would be nice to cross a few books from my collection.

Books To Be Read in August

#1. Divergent by Veronica Roth
"In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself." excerpt from amazon.com
I am not sure if I want to see the movie first or read the book first. I usually don't really care which one comes first.

#2. Insurgent (Divergent, Book 2) (Divergent Series) by Veronica Roth
"One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love." excerpt from amazon.com

#3. The 9th Girl (Kovac and Liska) by Tami Hoag
"On a frigid New Year’s Eve in Minneapolis, a young woman is found brutally murdered—the ninth so far this year in a string of grisly slayings. Homicide detectives Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska fear that it’s the work of a serial killer they call Doc Holiday, a transient who has brought his gruesome game to a new and more terrifying level. But as Kovac and Liska uncover the truth, they find that the monsters in the ninth girl’s life may live closer to home. And even as another young woman disappears, they have to ask the question: Which is the greater evil—the devil you know or the devil you don’t?" excerpt from amazon.com

#4. The Cuckoo's Calling (A Cormoran Strike Novel) by Robert Galbriath
"After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, thelegendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man" excerpt from amazon.com

Currently reading

#1. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
The story about Alien Invasion. It's a little bit scary and depress. I am still on chapter 16 and things get pretty hopeless so far. This story makes me think about what happened in Gaza. It feel like Israel is the Alien that try to Invade Gaza by wiping out the Palestine bit by bit.

#2. The 6th Target (Women's Murder Club) by James Patterson
This might be my new favourite series. I had so much fun reading Unlucky 13 and I enjoy the characters so much. Might collect all thirteen books.

That is all for now. How is your Eid celebration? Do you have fun? Do you still make time to read during the holiday?

DAN SELAMAT MENYAMBUT SYAWAL TOMORROW

Project 365 [Week thirty]

It was such a crazy and tragedy week for us Malaysian. We were shocked by the news of MH17 crashed and burn because the flight was mistakenly shoot down by some terrorist. Seriously?!!! It was a commercial flight from Amsterdam to Malaysia. 297 passengers died that day {17 July 2014}. It felt surreal just 132 days ago, MH370 missing and we are still mourn the lost and now this. What is happening to the word? Are we being bullied and we don't even know it.

I am so thankful and glad that I am alive today and still can appreciate my life little details. This is what Project 365 is all about. Capture the everyday.

HERE IS MY WEEK IN PHOTOS

day 202 - I am trying to make an entry about apps that is useful during Eid. And I just need a photo to go with it. The Awesome Note app on my iPad which sync beautifully with my iPhone via Evernote.

day 202

day 203 - Today is the day we host a monthly assembly. We try to make it as simple as possible and at the same time make an impact. We also take a group photo for Eid.
day 203

day 204 - I am trying to wear a shawl from Ariani. I have never a fan of shawl but sometimes I need to change a look and see how I feel about it now. I just love the material. It is soft and light. The colour is pretty too.
day 204

day 205 - I am in packing mode. I really hate packing. Deciding what things to bring is a really hard thing to do. That is why I have to pack at least one day early just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I just need to make a go to lists of the things that I need so that I don't over pack.
day 205

day 206 - Since I am not on my way back to my hometown, I spent the day shopping and window shopping. Finally I got a chance to go to Bangi Gateway. So many clothes, shawl and food here. I just can't choose I also saw this "wall" tribute to Gaza and MH17 here. It's nice that people do care about what happened outside their world.
Untitled

day 207 -On our way back to my hometown. Balik Kampung time.

day 208 - The last day of Ramadan. It's not easy saying goodbye to Ramadan. Life is so much easier in Ramadan.

Photo Prompt #28: Hijab

Challenge #28: Hijab

day#28

Suddenly I am so obsessed with Hijab. I just can't stop buying. I bought a few for myself, some for my daughter and my mom. I have not tired any new design from Freeda. I used to wear Freeda a few years back but I was not a fan back then. I am not sure if my taste has changed that much. We will see....

Project Life Photo Book Volume 01 [Week 1 - Week 27]

I realised that we are entering the third quarter of the year. In Project Life world I have about 27 set of project life layouts or  54 pages of scrap book layouts. At first I wanted to bind all my project life layouts in one book but than I thought my book is going to be too thick and heavy.

Then I saw that Photo book Malaysia is having a July sale , about 56% off any purchased , so I decided to make a volume 1 book with layouts from week 1 until week 27. Making the book is super duper easy. I like to design my own book, so I just made a collage of my photos for the cover. For the rest of the layout I just stick my high resolution photos on the page and set it to fit page. Voila, it's done.

I got my photo book in less than a week. The delivery is super duper fast and I am pretty happy with the result.

I am so looking forward to make more project life layouts and make a volume 2 photo book. I think I will stick to the same design for the front and back cover.

A little reminder // Balik Kampung checklists

Every year I made this Balik Kampung checklists as reminder for me and others to make sure everything is in order before heading out the door.  Eid is just around the corner and most of us are heading home this weekend. Right here in Malaysia most of us will 'balik kampung" or travelling back to our hometown to be with our parents and immediate family. If not well plan we might end up stuck in horrific traffic jam.

So before we pack our bags and hit the road, here are a few things that you should cross off your checklist. Some of these are the repeats one from last year and some of them are new.

Balik Kampung Checklists

#1. Check all electrical outlets around the house. Switch off all non essential equipments

#2. Pack early especially if you are packing for three. Make sure you bring all the things that you need during your Eid celebration

#3. Inform your neighbour of your trip and your estimated date of absence

#4. Make sure there is no stagnant water in your home

#5. Clean your sink

#6. Throw away all the garbage either the one in the kitchen, bathrooms and any other places you have a dustbin

#7. Make sure your car is in tip top condition. Send your car for a routine service if you haven't done so

#8.  Turn off your wifi. You don't need them

#9. Make sure that there's no outstanding job that requires your attention. Clear up everything before going for a long leave.

#10. Throw away all unfinished food. Don't left them in a fridge. In a week the food will not be eatable and you are going to throw them away eventually

#12. Fill up your car tank at least a day before your trip. This will safe you time and hassle on the actual travelling day

#13. Plan your trip well to make sure that the time you start your journey the traffic is light, The best time would be early in the morning before 8:00 am.

#14. If you travel with small children make sure that you have a go to bag for his needs like diaper, a bottle of milk, cookies and toys to keep him entertain in case your travel take longer than expected

#15. Doa before you start your engine, so that your trip will go smoothly without any unwanted incident

#16. SMILE and bring a POSITIVE attitude with you. Expect the unexpected and just enjoy the ride and the journey

I hope that you have a pleasant trip going back home.

Be safe, be kind and be courtesy.

Photo prompt #26: Phone

Challenge #26: Phone

day#26
I have been using mobile phone for more than ten years but I have never really took the time to take a photo of it and document them. Time like this I wish I had captured my first mobile phone. If I'm not mistaken it was Sony Ericsson mobile phone with a green text.

I just wonder what my phone will look like in 2020.

#thursday3 [25.07.2014]

My week so far is amazing even though in some part of the world people are dying and people are killing each other. I just have to shield my heart and my mind from thinking too much about that. Otherwise I will bee paralysed and depression will creep inside my heart and mind.
If only I have some kind of superpower which can be used to help people and bring world peace. Life can be hard and life can be ugly but if you don't count your blessing you might not see the beauty of life.

HERE ARE MY PHOTO AND FACTS FOR THE WEEK

24072014

#1. I am currently reading The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey and The 6th Target (Women's Murder Club) by James Patterson & Maxine Paetro

#2. It's the last week of Ramadan and I am feeling a little bit sad. So many unfortunate events happy to Muslim this Ramadan. May Allah gives us strength to keep on fighting the good fight.

#3. #prayforMH17 - the second incident which killed more than 200 people. Nobody seems to claim responsibility. Hemmmm....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Think about it this way…If you take one picture and write down three facts each week — at the end of the year you’ll have more than 50 photos of yourself and 150 facts about what life has been like. It would make such an epic All About Me book — and most of the work is already done."

Follow along each week using the hashtag #thursday3 dan tagged me @hanizeyecandy. I want to see your selfie and read about you

#throwback thursday [25.07.2014]

I found these photos deep down in my stack of papers at work. I can't believe that these photos were  not in an album. I immediately scanned them and keep a digital copy in my computer. It does brings me a lot of great memories

5 useful apps for Eid

Eid is just around the corner. Even though we as a nation is still mourn the lost of our people on flight MH17, life still goes on. I am a little bit heartbroken with all the madness and the inhumanity happening all around. I just don't get it.

Anyway, today I would like to talk about apps. Mostly about apps that can help you in preparation for Eid or during Eid. And these are the apps that I've used over and over again over the years and there's new app that I like to try just because it is fun to try.

5 useful apps for Eid

Untitled

#1. Awesome Note

I still used Awesome Note after all these years. I still think Awesome Note should be the default note taking apps for your iPad or iPhone. You can create a category specifically for Eid and it's a good place to write your do lists and your checklists. And this app look beautiful in iOS 7.

#2. BlogPress
If you are a blogger than this app is for you. Since you will be gone for about a week, it is a good idea to plan ahead your blog posts. BlogPress is also available in iPhone and iPad, so that means you can blog about your random photos and stories on the go. This is also one of the earliest app I bought that I am still using. I just love this app for mobile blogging.

#3. Waze
The most useful app ever especially during visiting family and friends at a place where you are not familiar with and have to idea what the traffic look like.  Waze can help you find the best route, estimate your time of arrival and show traffic. Don't leave home without it.

#4. Evernote Food
A free app from Evernote to keep track of food. During this festive season you need an app like Evernote Food to keep a journal what kind of food you eat in one day. Sometimes we tend to eat more that we shoot during Eid, which is not so good for your health and your weight. And this app integrate with Evernote. That makes it more accessible to you on any devices. You can also keep your recipes and collect all the recipes you want to try in this beautiful app.

#5. PartyParty

Emma and Elsie did it again. Another beautiful app from these two talented ladies - Party Party!  It's a beautiful camera apps. I just got this app and I am already loving it. Get this app if you love Photo Booth style photo and a little bit of animation / gif format. And this is a camera app not photo editing app.

Do you have any other apps that you used
in preparation for Eid?

Photo Prompt #24: Sparkle

Challenge #24: Sparkle

day#24
I am wearing a hijab from Ariani. I think it's from Siti Nurhaliza collection ( I don't think Siti is into this type of hijab) and it has a few rhinestones on it. And I am also wearing brooch from CK Rahim which is full with clear and colour rhinestone. I think the whole sparkle look makes my face look a little bit glowing. Hehehe...
