My Lovely May 2014 [monthly favourites]

monthlyfavorites

MAY FAVORITES

  • This month my eldest son celebrate his seventeen years old birthday. I am excited and sad at the same time. My baby is growing up and there's nothing I can do about it
  • Reality Bites! And that's how I felt when I realised that my weight is out of control. So I decided to make a plan and document what I ate. I need to remember to eat in moderation and not going overboard. I am definitely not in my twenties
  • My Project Life 2014 and Project 365 are going strong. Finally I found a solution that is simple and straight to the point.

I hope you had an amazing May and discover many new favorites. I am looking forward to a beautiful June, True Blood and more photos for Project Life 2014.

Finally a solution I have been waiting for

I love books and I love to read. I don't really know what happened why lately I am having trouble starting a book and finished them. I got easily distracted and finding a quiet and calm moment to just read has been a constant challenge.

Last Tuesday I discovered Audible. I was a little bit skeptical about listening to a book. I am not sure if I can follow the story without the actual action of reading.

Since I am a new user, I got to try Audible for free for the first 30 days and I can download one book for free. I decided to purchased The Target by David Baldacci. I already bought The Hit by the same author but I have not finished reading the book.

What I like about audible?
1- Listening to the narrated version of the book turns out to be so much fun. I love having someone reading the boom to me with a deep and soothing voice.
2- I can listen to the book while driving. Since I spent a lot of my time on the road, it really helps me read while driving.
3- I also have an ebook version of the book and this help me follow through and improve my vocab and pronunciation of unfamiliar words.
4- By the way I am using my iphone and ipad as my audible player. The content is available on all my devices via cloud sync.

I have been told that the new generation reads but not like the conventional reading style. It was very hard for me to accept the fact that you are still reading even if you just watch or listen. Now I understand.
I have read 25 chapters in three days and it is an amazing progress for me. I can see myself finishing this book in less than a week. Love love audible.

#thursday3 [29.05.2014]

It's Thursday again and it's time for project #thursday3. I am a little bit worry that my weight loss journey is not getting the support that I need. Loosing weight while traveling is not so easy especially when you plan to eat less buy end up eating more than you should have.

HERE IS MY PHOTO AND FACTS FOR THE WEEK

#1. Meetings at Grand Sentosa Plaza, Johor. I have managed to find this place using Waze. Got to remember to trust Waze no matter how ridiculous it looks.

#2. My weight lost journey is a little bit bumpy this week. I hope I did not do too much to sabotage my effort

#3. I am loving Get Extremely Ripped 1000 by Jari Love this week. I just love mixing weight nd cardio in the same workout.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Think about it this way…If you take one picture and write down three facts each week — at the end of the year you’ll have more than 50 photos of yourself and 150 facts about what life has been like. It would make such an epic All About Me book — and most of the work is already done."

5 iphone apps for memory keeping

I have been using my iPhone for almost everything ever since I got one back in 2011. One thing I never thought I would do with this phone is taking photos. I have never thought I would use this phone as my main camera. I was a DSLR user and I love the quality I got from the camera. Lately I realised that most of my monthly photos are sitting on my iPhone and not on my DSLR camera. I realised that the quality of the iPhone photos have improve and it's good enough for 4x6 print.  I have also been using a lot of apps on my phone for memory keeping.

These are five apps that I have been using a lot on my phone. And I put all these apps on my scrapbook folder.

1. Pic Tap Go
I basically use Pic tap Go to edit my photos for project 365. It has build in filter which you can mix and match to make your own filter recipes. You can also share your photos to instagram directly from the app

2. Phonto
I have been using Phonto for a really long time. It's one of the oldest app out there for adding text on your photo

iphone_photo

3. A Beautiful Mess app
ABM is the only app I bought on the first day of released. I know it's going to be amazing. I used this when I want something extra and different and a touch of Elsie and Emma on my photos.

4. Labelbox
I used labelbox app to add label and date on my photos. It has many beautiful labels to choose from.

5. Instant
I am obsessed with polaroid photos. And I used Instant app to create the original polaroid photos. I don't really like the fonts in the app. I used Phonto app to add the fonts on this photo.

Another 5 app that is nice app to have

1. Dropbox - I basically use Dropbox to organised my Project 365 and Project Life files. I basically choose my photos daily and upload them to dropbox on a weekly folder. And I also keep all my Digital Project Life kits on my dropbox.

2. Flickr - to upload your photos automatically to flickr. Since flickr gave everybody free 1TB space, it's a brilliant idea to just upload all your iPhone photos to your flickr. It will be set to private automatically and if you want to share some of the photos you can make it public from the app.

3. Instax share - to print your photos on Instax Share Printer

4. Instaweather - you can use this app to capture the weather at the moment. It's a good tools to document what the weather was like

5. Instaplace - I use this app to capture the place where I was at that moment. Sometimes it's not that accurate but it's close enough as a remembrance of where you were.

[All the app that I mention in this post might be available on Android. Some of them cost money and some of them are free.]

Do you used your mobile phone for memory keeping?
What app do you use?
If you like this type of content let me know.

Thanks for spending the time with me.

5 things why I love Phonto app

I have been using Phonto for a long time but mostly for adding text on my photos, I have never tried anything else. Lately I discovered that this app can do more than adding fonts on your photo. And I have been playing and exploring what this app can do like crazy.

5 things why I love Phonto
1. I can install my own fonts. Other than that the apps came with lots of beautiful fonts that you can play with.

2. You can add your text basically any where on your photos. It's totally adjustable, moveable and curveable

3. You can crop your photos to make it square ready for instagram. And you can totally share your photo to Instagram directly from this app.

4. It's totally free. The app came with a few in app purchased if you want to add something more like shapes, papers or even photo filters. The build in fonts, items, backgrounds and filters are sufficient enough to turn your photo into a work of art

5. I can make things like this just by using Phonto

Edited with #Phonto. @phontograph tiba tiba obses pulak dengan app ni

This app is available on iPhone, iPad and android. You should give this app a try and explore your creativity because there are so many things you can do with it right on your mobile devices.

To download your own fonts to Photo, you can used as suggested which is using iTunes to copy your fonts directly to the app.
I usually email myself a font or fonts I want to use. I opened the email from my iPhone or iPad , click on the fonts file and then choose Open in.. Phonto. The font you choose will be installed automatically to Phonto. It's much faster and easier for me to do that.

Project Life [Week twenty one]

Alhamdulillah, I am already entering the School Holiday break. That means no heavy traffic to work and no rushing out the door. I can just take a deep breath and take my time. Wakeup early every morning has given me a chance to work on my personal project, reflect on life and just being by myself before anyone else wake up. I really love my morning routine.

Project 365 [Week 21]

Alhamdulillah it's the end of week twenty one. This week I am determine to loose weight, so I decided to fast for four days straight. It wasn't easy but when my tummy was trained to received less food, than the rest was easy. I think when you tell people you are fasting you are more committed to follow through. My next challenge would be to loose weight without fasting. I hope I can do it. Every day is a constant battle when choosing what to put in your mouth.
Moving on to the photos I captured for the week.

HERE IS MY WEEK IN PHOTOS

day 139 - Visiting Ridhuan's son at home. Baby Zarith was born premature at 35 weeks. Alhamdulillah he can come home and be with his parents. I am so happy and excited to touch and kiss newborn.

day 139

day 140 - A smash book project my daughter is doing. I love that she is into scrapbook, smash book and making things cute and pretty.

day 140

day 141 This is my third day fasting and my iftar was at Padi, Galleria. Since I am in the loosing weight mode, I choose Jasmin green tea as my drink without any milk or sugar.

day 141

day 142 - The fourth day of fasting, I was feeling excited and energetic. For iftar tonight I decided to eat white rice and ikan patin masak tempoyak with fried egg and spinach.

day 142

day 143 - National Youth Day 2014, starts today. I can feel that this year is a little bit different because I can more informational, career opportunity and less entertainment around my office.
The military booth is something new. I am thinking of taking my kids here this weekend but I am not sure if I am up for walking.
day 143

day 144 - It's Saturday and I am alone in the house with Hanif. My kids have their own thing this morning. Staying in a house with only you and a toddler can be fun and challenging at the same time. I am also got a chance to sit in front of my iMac, browsing, blogging and shopping.

day 144

day 145 - Outing with this girl is so much fun even though at a times it feels like outing with my kids especially when she kept asking me to go home... heheh... It has been a really long time since the last time I went shopping with a friend with kids around. I hope we could make this a monthly event.

day 145

These are my life in photos for week twenty one. So many things happened and if I don't take the time to document them I might miss a lot. I still believe when you took the time to document the every day and the good things that happened in your life, you will be more grateful. Just saying.

Get Extremely Ripped 1000 // Review

I 've bought this DVD more than three years ago but I didn't really get a chance to really dive into it. So many things to try and so many distraction. Yesterday I made an update report and my plan to loose another 1 kg in a week, so this morning I decided to give Jari Love Get Extremely Ripped 1000 a try.

What I like
- It has two 30 minutes workout, so it's a time friendly workout.
- The cardio interval really burns cause I can feel my heartbeat faster and I was sweating like crazy.
- It has step option but today I didn't use step and I still get a great workout
- The strength training doesn't disappoint. It has all the Jari Love classic moves which I adore. The challenge is weight of your dumbbell. I used 5 pounds and 8 pounds dumbbells
- I can feel my calorie burning and melting away. Hemm I just have to drink lots of water after this to get rid off the fat.
- the 8 minute ab workout at the end is really tough and it has crunches. I love doing crunches.

- drinking lots of water during and after the workout is essential
- I just wish that the lighting in the video more bright

I highly recommend this video for those who want to loose weight and have fun at the same time.

Reality Bites : Update Report

Last Friday I decided to make a commitment to loose weight together with my friend. It was a project that I have intended to do for a very long time but with no results.  So last Friday when I weight myself on a scale at the office and it showed 64.8kg which was more weight that I have ever been without being pregnant. It was kinda wake up call for me. I did everything that I am suppose to do, I workout right and I try to eat in moderation but some how all those things doesn't seem to work anymore. I need to find something that works for me at this point of time.

So last Friday I made a goal for myself  that in one week I wanted to loose 1kg and I have list out all the things that I wanted to do, at least all that I can do in one week, as a guideline for me.

HERE WERE MY PLANS AND MY REPORT

1. Change my diet
I decided to be more conscious about what I ate and drink. Instead of ordering Milo ice, I choose Green Tea or lime juice. Instead of eating fried rice, I choose white rice. Instead of having rice every single day, I mixed it up with more protein and vegi

2. Document what I eat and drink for one week. I am going to use my DayOne app for this
I have been documenting what I eat and drink in my DayOne app like crazy.

3. I will also be documenting how I feel about the food, the workout and anything in between for one week. This will be a good point to start. I need to assess which method works and which method doesn't. It feels like my body is going through some changes and I have no idea what is going on.

4. Consume at least one glass of hot green tea at least once day
I find it hard to maintain because some nights I just didn't have the time to sit and enjoy my green tea. I only did this for four days. I need to do better next week

5. Make a one week workout plan that includes cardio for 25 minutes per day, weight workout and pilates
I have been following my workout plan to the letter. I am trying very hard to push my limited on every workout.

6. Fasting from Monday to Friday to train my body to adapt to less carbo intake per day
I decided to fast from Monday to Thursday. I decided to skip Friday because I have so many activities plan for today and I wanted to see if I can eat something wisely.

7. Drink at least 2 litter of water even though on the days of fasting
So far I have managed to drink only one litter of water during fasting. It's not easy to drink lots of water at night.
------------------------------------------

The results:
Currently weight: 62.8kg
I can wear my wrist watch without feeling tight. It fits perfectly.

I am still a long way to go because my ideal weight is between 56kg - 60kg. I have like 5kg to loose. It's seem hard to do without fasting.

So my next experiment is to try and loose another 1kg in one week without fasting.

My Plan of Action for the next 7 days
1. Increase my workout intensity. My goal is to break a sweat. Mix and match routine to surprise my body
2. Drink green tea daily
3. Slimming body massage at least once
4. Drink at least 3 litter of water daily
5. Continue documenting what I eat on a daily basis
6. Go for a 15 minutes run at least once
7. Stop eating rice for the next 7 days
8. Stop drinking drinks with sugar in them. So no milo, nescafe and no fruit juice. Drink milk, herbalife tea or plain water instead. (I really need to see if this works or not)

This will a nice experiment for me to see if I can get results with these routine. Finding a healthy lifestyle that I can live with is very challenging. Wish me luck.

#thursday3 [22.05.2014]

It's Thursday again and it's time for project #thursday3. My week so far is hectic and even though I was fasting this week I feel great and energetic. I just wish I have more time to work on things I love and be more creative. I really need a creative outlet where I can express myself and create something beautiful.

HERE IS MY PHOTO AND FACTS FOR THE WEEK

22052014

#1. Meetings mode this week. Most of week days are full with meetings from the moment I came to work until the time I go home.

#2. I am fasting for the sake of fasting. It was hard at first but on the second day it feels natural. Now I am loving it.

#3. Catching up on Devious Maids Season 2. The Plot thickens. I hope this season will have more than nine episodes.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Think about it this way…If you take one picture and write down three facts each week — at the end of the year you’ll have more than 50 photos of yourself and 150 facts about what life has been like. It would make such an epic All About Me book — and most of the work is already done."

5 ways how I used DayOne App

I discovered Day One app when I saw this app was free for a limited time on AppGonesFree. I immediately download it and I have been using it ever since, especially since this year my One Little Word is Write.

This little things I love about this app:
1. It's available in all of my platform - iPad, iPhone and iMac, so I have the same content everywhere I go
2. It has a reminder that I can set to remind me to journal
3. I just love the clean interface and design both on iPhone & on iMac
4. I love that it has tag. This mean I can search and organise my content faster
5. It has beautiful quotes display every time you open your app and it also rotate with journal prompt that you can use

Here are 5 ways I have been using this app

1. Weight Loss Journey journal
I thought I want a different app for documenting my weight loss journey but I couldn't find anything that I like. Then I  decided to use Day One app - I make at least two entry per day one for documenting what I ate and one for documenting my exercise routine and how I felt about it. And once in a while I will jot down what I thoughts and how I felt about the journey on a separate post. So far it works nicely for me.

2. I document my Project 365 right here
Since this app can only insert one photo for each entry, it's perfect to document a photo a day challenge. I can write and capture my story anywhere, any time

3. My deepest darkest secret
I also use Day One app to document my deepest darkest secret for my eyes only. I love the freedom to write what ever I want without editing and without judgement

4. TV Show and Movies review and thoughts
I love watching all kinds of tv shows and movies. I used Day One to document what movie and TV show I watched and what I like or don't like about it. It's kind of a database for my personal references

5. Blog Ideas
I also used DayOne app to jot down blog ideas. It's available to me anywhere I go and when an idea hit me I can just open my DayOne app on my iPhone , key in my thoughts and tag it as Blog Ideas. It's great way to collect what have been on my mind without worrying of loosing the ideas.

Things I wish they will add in the future
1. Adding video content to daily post
2. Link to movie, books database for reference
3. Have more template to play with
4. More fonts to choose from or have the flexibility to add your own fonts
5. Add more than one photos to each post
6. Have a web version so I can view my content on windows platform

Do you used DayOne app?
Or do you used any other journaling tools on your mobile devices ?
Do  you have any suggestion what other
journaling apps I should check out?
Let me know.

5 things // philosophy line

I have been using all kinds of skin care products like forever. I love experimenting with different brand and different treatment just to see how my skin response to it.
Lately I have been loving Philosophy brand and currently I have been using Hope in a jar night cream, full of promise , miracle worker cream and purity facial cleanser.

Note: I have a combination of normal to dry skin and my skin is not that sensitive.
5 things why I love these product
1. I can easily get them at Sephora store
- accessibility is very important for me because I really hate to use a product which I can only buy in other country or at the airport. It's very hard to maintain if I get them easily.
2. I really love the texture.
It feels smooth and rich on my skin. I really feels it's doing the job of moisturising and hydrating

3. I love the packaging
It's light weight and have a flat top. It's easily organized and stack on top of each other without falling over.
4. It absorb easily
I don't have to spend a long time to massage the lotion for it to really sink it. This save me a lot of time.

5. I used Purity facial cleanser to wash my face every night. It's gentel on my eyes and I can use it to remove makeup and eyeshadow. I love the milky texture so it doesn't dry up my skin.

I highly recommend this brand if you have dry to normal skin. I am no sure if it's works amazing on oily skin.

Project Life [Week 20]

Alhamdulillah, it's Monday again. I am happy that my week went by smoothly. I love the idea of waking up, dressing up and going to work every morning. I just hate the fact that I have to face a heavy traffic every morning. I don't really know why this year there are a lot of cars on the road. I am looking forward to school holidays which makes the commute to work a little bit smooth and happy.

Project 364 [Week 20]

I love week twenty just because it's the middle of May. There are a lot of TV shows are wrapping up before summer comes. So far I have watched Greys Anatomy last episode and it was a very sad and feels like season 11 is not going to be the same. Grimm is also ending with Nick stripped off from his Grimm power. I just can't wait to see them again in the next season. I am also looking forward to Summer TV show like True Blood, Teen Wolf, Under the Dome and many more.

HERE IS MY WEEK IN PHOTOS

day 132 - I have been rereading How to talk to kids so they would listen book. I really having trouble finishing the book. I just don’t know why back when my eldest was younger I din’t have problem finishing a book.

day 133 - It’s a public holiday today and I am having a great time staying at home with my children. I just love these photos of all my favourite people doing their own things and still managed to be in a photo together. Asking them to sit still and look at the camera is asking too much. I wish I could be in the photo. hemmm.

day 134 - My darling is in his two years of age. It’s the best age to be. He is more aware of his environment , he has likes and dislikes and he can express them.

day 135 - It’s thursday again and it’s time for thursday3 project. I love doing this project, taking photos of yourself weekly and write three facts about you. I have been doing this since the beginning of the year and I love seeing how I changed weekly.

day 136 - Today I decided to take control of my weight. The first thing I need to do is do an assessment and audit what are my eating habits and lifestyle. I thought I have practice as close as possible to healthy eating and lifestyle, apparently it’s not enough to reduce body fat.

day 137 - The most beautiful thing ever, watching Hazim play with his brother. So damn cute!

day 138 - My third day of trying to eat healthy and control my food portion. This is me having lunch at San Francisco Pizza having Chicken Sandwich and Lime juice.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These are my life in photos for week twenty. So many things happened and if I don't take the time to document them I might miss a lot. I still believe when you took the time to document the every day and the good things that happened in your life, you will be more grateful. Just saying.

Reality Bites

I have been bitten by reality bug today. I am not seeing the result that I am hoping for. I have been doing so many things and reduce the potion of what I ate to get into my healthy weight, (which is around 58kg) but somehow not matter what I did, I am still not getting anywhere. Being forty plus and slightly over weight is something new to me. I have never face with this kind of problem before. I guess my body works differently that it used to.

I need to do something. Maybe workout for just 25 minutes a day isn't enough for me anymore. Maybe I need to focus more on weight training rather than cardio. Maybe I ate a lot than I should, maybe I should cut down on my sugar intake. There are so many maybes comes to mind. I just really need to do something about it. What I have been doing so far doesn't seems to work anymore. I need to reassess, audit what my habits are, experiment and see which approach fits me at this point in time. I just hope that I am not going through menopause.

So for the first week of my experiment I decided to...
1. Change my diet
2. Document what I eat and drink for one week. I am going to use my DayOne app for this
3. I will also be documenting how I feel about the food, the workout and anything in between for one week. This will be a good point to start. I need to assess which method works and which method doesn't. It feels like my body is going through some changes and I have no idea what is going on
4. Consume at least one glass of hot green tea at least once day
5. Make a one week workout plan that includes cardio for 25 minutes per day, weight workout and pilates
6. Fast from Monday to Friday to train my body to adapt to less carbo intake per day
7. Drink at least 2 litter of water even though on the days of fasting

My goal for this week is to loose at least 1kg. It's a little bit drastic I know but I just want to see if I am able to loose the weight. At this point I don't really care if it's water weight or fat. I just want to see the scale moving down instead of moving up.

Wish me luck!

#thursday3 [15.05.2014]

This week should feel a little bit short just because we have a public holiday on Tuesday but somehow it still feels longer. I hate taking a day off in the middle of the week just because it's going to be so much harder to start working again

HERE IS MY PHOTO AND FACTS FOR THE WEEK

15052014

#1. Catching up with some old friends. I wish things could be different but they not. Accepting and moving on mood this week.

#2. I am still dreaming of owning a macbook pro. I am looking forward to this Jun to see what is next in Mac world. I felt like it has been a little bit quite at Apple, no announcement of something new in March or April.

#3. Catching up on Scandal Season 3. I am rooting for Olivia and Jake.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Think about it this way…If you take one picture and write down three facts each week — at the end of the year you’ll have more than 50 photos of yourself and 150 facts about what life has been like. It would make such an epic All About Me book — and most of the work is already done."

5 things // Instax Share

I finally caved in and bought myself an Instax Share printer by Fujiflim.  This is finally a polaroid print that meet my specification. Back then I was hesitate to buy an Instax Mini 8 camera just because I am not a great photographer and I can't take a great photos with manual setting. I can't even adjust the lighting to make a photo pop up. And the lack of digital copy of a photo really turn me off.
And then I made a DIY template for making a Instax Mini polaroid, it was fun for awhile but it is still an extra step to take before I get the result.
Now with Instax Share printer, I got the result immediately. I am super duper excited with my new printer and I have been printing like crazy.

haniz-instax-share1

5 things why I'm in love with Instax Share printer

1. Compact and light weight.
I can bring this printer anywhere I go and it fit perfectly in my bag pack. I can put this printer anywhere in my home and print.

2. It comes with Instax Share app for my phone
I can print the photo directly from my phone. Either I capture the image from the app or I select the existing photos from my camera roll

3. The paper for the printer is the same as the Instax Mini paper
The paper sold everywhere in Malaysia, so I don't have problem getting one but it is a bit pricy. For a cheaper price get them from Lazada and you will go crazy buying like hundreds of them. And they also come with cute borders.

4. So many projects I can do with these little polaroid prints.
The first thing that comes to mind is Project Life. This is going to look great in my Project Life album.
Mixing the photo with different app is also something fun I can do, like in the photo below I used Instant app to create a normal polaroid and add text before I print them out.
I am also adding these photos into my journal and smash book.

5. No wires
Finally a batteries operated (2x CR2)  and wireless printer is in the house. It is a relief to see a technologies that are not hooked up to any wires. Such a pretty sight in my book

I highly recommend this printer if you...
 - want light weight printer
 - love polaroid but you want to have more control of the photo you take
 - love something cute and mini
 - want an instant satisfaction
 - and you have budget for it (it's a little bit expensive)

The Price between RM600 - RM700 for the printer alone. The paper normal price for 10 pieces is about RM32.00. Try and hunt for something cheaper than that because I'll tell you 10 pieces is not enough for the speed of printing like crazy. And the batteries also not cheap - 2 x CR2 is about RM50.00. I am still hunting for the power adapter. This might come in handy if I run out of batteries faster than I can replace them.

Currently I am still using the batteries that comes with the printer and I have been printing for more than 50 photos and the batteries are still good.
