In the spirit of Shawaal and the month of forgiveness, I would love to take this opportunity to wish all my Muslim friends, Happy Eid and may Allah bless you always.
When talking about forgiveness, it’s so easy to say it than to really mean it, especially when hearts have been broken and hearts have been hurt. In Islam we were taught to forgive others every day before going to bed. It’s easier to forgive someone that you don’t really know compare to forgive someone you care. When you think about it, forgiveness is more for you than for the person who wrong you. When you hold a grudge over someone for a longer period of time, you would not be at peace. You are constantly thinking about it and constantly wanting something bad happened to that person. I can tell you that it’s a waste of time and it’s really holding you back from living your life.
So today, I would love to share with you some tips to forgive someone
#1. Dua and pray a lot. Become closer to Allah because nothing seems to matter most in this world except blessing from Allah.
#2. Change your thoughts. Don’t focus on the negative things, refresh and focus on the positive things. Everything in this world has two sides, the good and the bad, the half empty glass or half full glass. It’s your choice which side you want to see.
#3. Everyday before going to bed, forgive everybody. Tell yourself that you forgive them. If you do this every single day, at the end your heart will be at peace.
#4. Keep yourself busy with other aspect of your life. Life is too short to dwell on what other people did to you. Keep focusing on the ultimate goal.
#5. Exercise. If you are so hurt and really really angry at someone, it really helps to exercise or run. When your body release endorphin, you can’t help but feel happy.
#6. Take yourself outside of the box. Think as a third person. Stop personalizing the situation. Try to see things from different perspective. Your might see something you haven’t see before. If possible try to empathize.
All of these are easier said that done but it is possible to do. Healing is a process, forgiveness is a process. Take it one day at a time.
Note: When you forgive someone specific, that person doesn’t even have to know that you have forgiven them. Remember the rule // forgiveness is more for you, for your peace of mind.
