Gengpanjattangga makes a comeback

It has been a long time since the last time we did this activity together. Ever since the July incident I just don't have the energy to take care of myself. I was thinking what's the point. The thought of escaping this life was overwhelming. Then I had a medical checkup and my cholesterol level was not great. I need to take control of life and my health. Taking care of myself and be the best version of myself. My only goal now is exercise, be fit and travel the world.

Next place on my wishlist - Beijing, Korea, New Zealand, Balkan and watch Northen Light. I am hoping to cross off this list in the next five years. Amin.....

Book Haul // my son choose books for me

I have been buying books for as long as I can remember. I used to buy Malay books a long time ago but somehow I just stop. I don't know why. Maybe because I don't really know the author from this generation and I totally forgot all the local authors I used to love and read.

So today I decided to let my son choose three books from local author and I am not going to say anything about it. I just let fate decide. I really need to read outside of my comfort zone and expand my reading experience.

Oooo I am so nervous...

1. Projek Seram POKOK by Ebriza Aminnudin, Aziah Zainal and Syasya Bellyna

I am not a fan of scary stories , so this book might not be in my radar. I hope I am brave enough to read it.

2. Rule untuk Calon Isteri by Azwin Zulkapli
This is a contemporary book about marriage and second chances. I usually have a lot of trouble reading Malay love stories because sometimes the story doesn't make any sense. I am going to keep an open mind and just read the book

3. Heroku Anak Emak by Iffa Zalia
Another contemporary love story book which explore the dynamic and complicated relationship in marriage. Erghh the title alone makes me cringe.

That's the three Malay novels I purchased in a really long time. I wanted so bad to fall in love with Malay books , hopefully this will be the book that is going to make me explore more.

As a book lover, I have to buy books for myself too. So I choose ....

I am a backpacker - Turki by Shafiq Shafie - just because I am going to Turki next month and I wanted to know more about the places I'm going to go.

And the second one is I'm a Backpacker: Europe by Khairul Abdullah - just because I have been dreaming of traveling to Europe for the longest time. This will definitely be the next place I want to visit.

I like learning about the culture, the people and the history of all the places I go. Maybe one day I will have enough money and ample time to make my dream comes true. I always imagine that I go travel with my son after his graduation. Be with each and at the same time experience the world together for the first time.

5 Books I want to read before end of the year

November is always the busiest month of the year. So many things need to wrap up and finished before December comes. I am still way behind on my reading goals for this year. I am happy that I still continue reading even though sometimes I feel like I want to sleep and not wake up. I like stories and I love memory keeping, the two activities that help me during my darkest time. I am glad that this year I discovered a lot of great books that has been sitting on my ebook shelf waiting for me to read.

1. PINES by Blake Crouch
I like his book Dark Matter and I wanted to read Wayward Pines series. I have watch the TV series on hulu and I really enjoyed.

"Secret service agent Ethan Burke arrives in Wayward Pines, Idaho, with a clear mission: locate and recover two federal agents who went missing in the bucolic town one month earlier. But within minutes of his arrival, Ethan is involved in a violent accident. He comes to in a hospital, with no ID, no cell phone, and no briefcase. The medical staff seems friendly enough, but something feels…off. As the days pass, Ethan’s investigation into the disappearance of his colleagues turns up more questions than answers. Why can’t he get any phone calls through to his wife and son in the outside world? Why doesn’t anyone believe he is who he says he is? And what is the purpose of the electrified fences surrounding the town? Are they meant to keep the residents in? Or something else out? Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the world he thought he knew, from the man he thought he was, until he must face a horrifying fact—he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive." excerpt from

2. Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King and Owen King
This is definitely one huge book. I am not sure if I will be picking up this book in November but I really want to read it.

"In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent. And while they sleep they go to another place, a better place, where harmony prevails and conflict is rare.

One woman, the mysterious “Eve Black,” is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Eve a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain? Abandoned, left to their increasingly primal urges, the men divide into warring factions, some wanting to kill Eve, some to save her. Others exploit the chaos to wreak their own vengeance on new enemies. All turn to violence in a suddenly all-male world" excerpt from

3. The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter
I am a fan of Karin Slaughter book. I basically will read most of her book. I wanted to read this book for the longest time but somehow I just didn't get to it yet.

"Two girls are forced into the woods at gunpoint. One runs for her life. One is left behind…Twenty-eight years ago, Charlotte and Samantha Quinn's happy small-town family life was torn apart by a terrifying attack on their family home. It left their mother dead. It left their father — Pikeville's notorious defense attorney — devastated. And it left the family fractured beyond repair, consumed by secrets from that terrible night" excerpt from

4. Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough
I am definitely a sucker for psychological thriller. I hear a lot of good things about this book. I can't wait to read it.

"Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. On a rare night out, she meets a man in a bar and sparks fly. Though he leaves after they kiss, she’s thrilled she finally connected with someone.
When Louise arrives at work on Monday, she meets her new boss, David. The man from the bar. The very married man from the bar…who says the kiss was a terrible mistake, but who still can’t keep his eyes off Louise.
And then Louise bumps into Adele, who’s new to town and in need of a friend. But she also just happens to be married to David. And if you think you know where this story is going, think again, because Behind Her Eyes is like no other book you’ve read before.
David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband and wife. But then why is David so controlling? And why is Adele so scared of him?" excerpt from

5. Beyond Limits by Laura Giffin
I have not read any books by Laura Giffin. I decided to give this book a try just because I love detective book. This book is a number 8 in Tracers series. I am hoping that I can follow the stories without reading the first 7 books in this series.

"FBI agent Elizabeth LeBlanc is still caught in the aftermath of her last big case when she runs into the one man from her past who is sure to rock her equilibrium even more. Navy SEAL Derek Vaughn is back home from a harrowing rescue mission in which he found evidence of a secret terror cell on US soil. Elizabeth knows he’ll do anything to unravel the plot—including seducing her for information. And despite the risks involved, she’s tempted to let him. Together with the forensics experts at the Delphi Center, Derek and Elizabeth are closing in on the truth, but it may not be fast enough to avert a devastating attack" excerpt from

I am currently reading PINES and THE SHARK by Mary Burton (Forgotten Files Series). I am almost finished and I can't wait to start reading the book in this lists.

Red Velvet by Acik Lana // book review

I have not read a Malay book in a really long time. I want to discover new local writers and want to enjoy reading them. So far I haven't found anything that I like.
When I found out about this book from a friend, I was intrigued so I decided to give this book a chance.

Red velvet

What the book is about?

What do I think?
Oh boy, where do I begin? I started reading the book until chapter 15 and then I just can't read anymore. I wanted so bad to love the characters and the love story but I am not. I skipped a head a few chapters hoping that the more I get into the story the more I will like it but that did not happened. So I decided to stop reading. It might not be fair for me to review the book when I did not finished reading but I just wanted to document my experience in this blog so that I remember what type of book I don't enjoyed as well. I just cannot get into her writing style and I don't care that much about the characters. The only thing that I love about the book is red velvet cake heheh.

I am not sure if I will recommend this book. I am so sorry if some of you really love the book. I just didn't.

I Am Watching You by Teresa Driscoll

I am excited to read the book about the mystery of a disappearing girl. The scary thing about this was there are a lot of books written about disappearing girls that makes it so scary sometimes.

What this book is about?
“When Ella Longfield overhears two attractive young men flirting with teenage girls on a train, she thinks nothing of it—until she realises they are fresh out of prison and her maternal instinct is put on high alert. But just as she’s decided to call for help, something stops her. The next day, she wakes up to the news that one of the girls—beautiful, green-eyed Anna Ballard—has disappeared. A year later, Anna is still missing. Ella is wracked with guilt over what she failed to do, and she’s not the only one who can’t forget. Someone is sending her threatening letters—letters that make her fear for her life. Then an anniversary appeal reveals that Anna’s friends and family might have something to hide. Anna’s best friend, Sarah, hasn’t been telling the whole truth about what really happened that night—and her parents have been keeping secrets of their own. Someone knows where Anna is—and they’re not telling. But they are watching Ella.” excerpt from

What do I think?
I enjoyed reading this book but not as much as Stillhouse lake book. The theme is a bit familiar already and I am a bit disappointed with the ending. I am hoping for more stories related to Luke and Tim. I am not a fan when the author summarised everything up in an epilog. It feels a little bit rush. Other than that I enjoyed reading multiple characters point of view through out this ordeal. It definitely keep me guessing and curious enough to finish the book.

I recommend this book if you love reading about missing girls, mystery and multiple characters point of view. It's an ok book in my opinion.

October 2017 Favorites

It has been along time since I did my monthly favorites. I missed doing this little memory keeping to keep record of the things that excite me in monthly basis. I do need to this project more often. Finding the little things that made me happy.

  • I decided to get the iPhone 8 plus instead of the iPhone X. I will share more about this in another post
  • Holding the beautiful iPhone 8 plus in gold makes me happy
  • I am in the middle of cleaning out all of my old CDs and DVDs collections. It's hard for me to throw them away but it has to be done. These items has fit their purposed at one time and now they no longer have a place in my home. I am happy to see some clear space. Oh boy! I do have a lot of this media in my house
  • I am obsessed with Fresh off the boat. I have binge watching on hulu. I love the fact that this story took place in the 90s'. Those were the days where internet was still new and I was happy with my small little family
  • I got to meet Neelofa in person at Swarvoski event. She is definitely one pretty lady.
  • I finally bought a new car on my own. It feels good to be independent. Now I have to choose a name for it. I am thinking between Jacobs and Thor or maybe Thobias. I can't decide
  • I enrolled in productivity online class. I love learning about productivity and technology. I have two more class to finish
  • I bought iPlanner 2018 for my goodnotes app. I am happy to finally go digital for my planner. I even do my journaling digitally. I am trying to cut back on my usage to papers in my daily life
  • I am loving my current project which is to reorganise my digital assets into categories and saved them into separate hard disk. Reformat all of my hard disk into exFAT so that my data is accessible to MAC and PC.
  • I finished three books in October which I think is an achievement for me
  • I watched THOR: RAGNAROK in cinema with my kids. Love this movie. I can't wait for the next THOR or AVENGERS.
  • One more thing, I am also in love with Apple Watch series 3 in Gold. So beautiful. I think Apple got it right this time in terms of gold color. I do missed the rose gold color but this new gold is pretty too.
I hope you had an amazing October. No matter how horrible you think your life is try to look for the beautiful things in life. Train you mind and your brain to see the things to be grateful for. Life is too short to not to be HAPPY.

Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine

I never would have pickup this type of book if not for Kindle Unlimited recommendation. A story about a serial killer’s wife and kids seems a bit crazy and twisted for my taste. This month I decided to download the book and the audiobook and simply read it. To my surprised I really enjoyed the book and I am looking forward to the next one in the series.

What this book is about?
Gina Royal is the definition of average—a shy Midwestern housewife with a happy marriage and two adorable children. But when a car accident reveals her husband’s secret life as a serial killer, she must remake herself as Gwen Proctor—the ultimate warrior mom. With her ex now in prison, Gwen has finally found refuge in a new home on remote Stillhouse Lake. Though still the target of stalkers and Internet trolls who think she had something to do with her husband’s crimes, Gwen dares to think her kids can finally grow up in peace. But just when she’s starting to feel at ease in her new identity, a body turns up in the lake—and threatening letters start arriving from an all-too-familiar address. Gwen Proctor must keep friends close and enemies at bay to avoid being exposed—or watch her kids fall victim to a killer who takes pleasure in tormenting her. One thing is certain: she’s learned how to fight evil. And she’ll never stop.”

What do I think?
I can totally related to what Gwen must be feeling, not the part where she married a serial killer but on the part that she married a husband who is pretending to be somebody else. The sense of betrayal and insecurity is totally familiar to me. I really like Rachel Caine writing style. I can follow the character’s storyline and she made me feel scared for Gwen and her kids.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed thriller and mystery. Totally worth my time.

A thousand pieces of you by Claudia Gray

I am suddenly obsessed with a book about Multi Universe. The thought that there’s an alternate Universe with me in it and lead a different life is very intriguing. I would very much love to jump into another universe where I am a successful entrepreneur with a loving husband and well adjusted kids. That would definitely the world I would love to live in.

Book .

 What the book is about?
“A thousand lives. A thousand possibilities. One fate. Marguerite Caine grew up surrounded by cutting-edge scientific theories, thanks to her brilliant physicist parents. Yet nothing is more astounding than her mother's latest invention - a device called the Firebird, which allows people to leap into alternate dimensions. When Marguerite's father is murdered, all the evidence points to one person - Paul, her parents' enigmatic star student. Before the law can touch him, Paul escapes into another dimension, having committed what seems like the perfect crime. But he didn't count on Marguerite. She doesn't know if she can kill a man, but she's going to find out. With the help of another physics student, Theo, Marguerite chases Paul through various dimensions. In each new world Marguerite leaps to, she meets another version of Paul that has her doubting his guilt and questioning her heart. Is she doomed to repeat the same betrayal? As Marguerite races through these wildly different lives - a grand duchess in a Tsarist Russia, a club-hopping orphan in a futuristic London, a refugee from worldwide flooding on a station in the heart of the ocean - she is swept into an epic love affair as dangerous as it is irresistible.” excerpt from

What do I think?
I never thought I would enjoyed a book with multi universe theme. This book caught my attention because it has the element of mystery and finding the love a long the way. It’s fun overall and I can follow Marguerite journey from one universe to the next without any problem. The ending was as a little bit unexpected and I really enjoyed it. I am not sure if I wanted to read the second and third book just because I think the first book wrap things up pretty nicely and I don’t want to ruin the perfect ending.

I highly recommend this book to everybody who loves adventure and multi universe theme.

Are we running today?

Happy weekend lovelies. How was your morning today? Mine was pretty amazing. I started running again. I have no idea why I stop. Sometimes when you are depressed the last thing you want to do is run. Today I decided to  force myself to get out of bed, wear my workout clothes and put on my favorite running shoes. No planning and no thinking it through. I decided to clear my mind and just run. Run baby run and now worry too much about calories burn or distance. Run just for fun while listening to my favorite music.

I am so glad I did it. It's the best thing I did today.

What running did to me ?

1. I am happy when I run. There’s something about running that helps me feel alive and happy

2. I like the sound of my heart beat after a run. It makes me feel like I can do anything

3. Running brings back the best memories of my life. I used to be a sprinter at my school and won lots of meddle back then. I love being the center of attention

4. Running with an apple watch is a whole new experience. I like the quite tap I get when I achieve 1 km milestone and I can listen to my favorite music while I run

running - 2

5. I am not obsessed with how many kilometers I ran but I am obsessed with how many steps count I can get on one running session. Apple watch can help me see how many steps I have achieved in one sessions

6. Running is also the best exercise to work your whole body. I am totally amazed that my whole body including my buttocks hurts the next day after

running - 3

running - 4

Now it’s time for me to relax at home and watch the Big Bang Theory latest episode on CBS and try to get 1000 steps more before 12:00pm

10 things right now ... because life happened

Life has not been good to me. I have been hurt and broken so many times that I lost count. Picking myself up is not an easy thing to do. Nothing in this world is permanent. I have so many worries and concerns at the moment that kept me awake at night. I am trying so hard not to fall apart. Sometimes it feels good to write all the things that you worry about in your journal. And sometimes I just feel like documenting my right now. My life was definitely different back then

10 things right now

1.Learning to love myself again is not easy to do especially when you hate yourself for not being smart

2. I have to learn to be ok with myself. Be my own best friend. I need to watch Wild. I need to find myself again.

3. I am excited for iPhone 8 plus even though many people are waiting for iPhone X. I think it’s so cool to have the same size and design of phone πŸ“± because I am used to bigger size phone

4. I worry about my kids all the time. I pray that they will be okay with our new normal. We are enough.

5. I have lost the passion to scrapbook since the unfortunate incident. I feel a little bit lost. I really need to get back into scrapbooking because it’s the only hobby that makes me happy

6.I have no idea where this Big Data Project is heading. The idea of Big Data is amazing but the implementation of the analytics and collecting data is the biggest challenge right now

7. I am worry that starting over my life at my age is going to be hard. I have to be strong for my kids.

8. Two of my hard disks corrupted and I lost lots of data. That makes me sad. I am in the middle of backup all of my data to a new hard disks and organize everything.

9. I wish I could move to a new place where I can be myself, enjoy retirement, read and be in the moment.

10. I am loving iOS 11

No matter how hard life gets, I need to find the one thing that I am grateful for and just be happy. No one can make you happy except you. Be kind to yourself and forgive yourself.

iPlanner for Digital Life

I have been using iPlanner for more than two years now. I love the idea of using my iPad as my note taking app. Back in the days when there was so many stylus to choose from to use with your iPad. I have tried most of them and I did not find one close to writing as pen and paper. During that time I went from digital to paper constantly. As the result I have way too many paper planners and too many system to get use too.

Iplanner daily

Last year I decided to buy an iPad Pro 9.7" with the Apple Pencil. I really want to give digital planning one more try to see if I can finally ditch my paper planner. Everybody was talking about how amazing Apple Pencil is and they are definitely correct. Apple Pencil just works beautifully with my iPad Pro.

I am happy to say that these two devices definitely changes things. Earlier this year I bought iPlanner Daily for 2017 and I have been using it daily. This iPlanner works perfectly with Goodnotes App. Then in the middle of the year I discovered that the digital planning community has grown tremendously and there are many sellers on Etsy sell digital planner for Goodnotes App.

Here are five thing why I think you should try iPlanner
  1. iPlanner had been around for the longest time. It has evolve from a normal pdf files to clickable tabs which makes this planner feels like the real thing.
  2. iPlanner works so well with GoodNotes app.
  3. The simple designs that allow your creativity to flow. You can design this planner anyway that you like
  4. Adding your own template and digital paper is so much easier. You can reused any pdf template that you have in this planner
  5. iPlanner has a few format you can choose - Daily, Vertical Weekly and Horizontal Weekly. You can choose one or you can choose all three.
I am looking forward to 2018 iPlanner which should be out soon ( I hope). I will definitely buy the new iPlanner from . I am not an affiliate with digitallyspeaking, I am just a fan who enjoy using the product.

  • I think the water here is not so clean
  • I am missing Hanif so much
  • I am having the time of my life. I am finally feel free
  • Guilin is a small city compare to Beijing and Shanghai. Less than 3 million people here. In Beijing and Shanghai is about 25 million people and the cost of living there is way too high
  • Our tourist guide is Alex and right now he is telling us a story of Guilin and China too πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³
Day 04 - At Train station in Guilin.

Day 05 - More sight seeing and shopping. I need to come back just to Ghaungzhou to do some serious shopping.

Day 06 - At Ghaungzhou airport

Overall I am so happy here. Six days taking a break from my normal life really makes me happy. Life is so much bigger than my problem. If given a chance I wanted to travel the world and spend like a year just to experience the culture and the scenery.

I don't have any problem follow the itinerary set by the company. It's a stress free travel all I have to do is show up. I highly recommend this trip for the whole family to enjoy. You don't have any problem to meet 10,000 step a day requirement because you have to walk a lot. The food was also great and I don't have any issue. The point of travelling is to experience the local food and culture.

Evernote for digital lifestyle

One of many ways to living a digital lifestyle is to use technology as much as possible. One of the app that I have been using for a long time and still learning to set it up is EvernoteIn the simplest form Evernote is a note taking app that is universal enough for multiple platform. Evernote can be what ever you want it to be because it can captured almost anything like text, photos, videos, audios and many more.

Back in 2012 I used Evernote for basically everything, now I am trying to limit the way I used Evernote. I am in the process of reviewing what I captured in Evernote because there are so many apps I am using right now like Todoist, Goodnotes, Calendar 5 which sometimes can make my workflow a little bit complicated.

As always when I want to learn something new or new ways of doing things, I turned to youtube for inspiration and knowledge.

Here are a few channels that I have come across during my research that I totally enjoyed watching

1. How Nora Conrad used Evernote
2. Using Evernote for Travel Planning
3. Using Evernote to Achieve Long Terms Goals
4. Carl Pullen Working with Evernote Series - I am totally obsess with this series!
5. How to Use Evernote Effectively: Top 5 Things You'll Want to Know
6. Evernote Tutorial 2015
7. Learning to use Tags
8. How I plan with Evernote
9. How To Plan Your Day Using Evernote

My plan for my new Evernote setup are as follows

1. Re organize my tags and setup nested tags
2. Limit Evernote for Notes, Emails, Receipts, Recepies, Reference Materials, Travel Plan
3. Keep track of everything that I have in my Evernote
4. Re organize my notes and notebooks. Backup and archives old notes and notebook
5. Standardise naming convention through out my notes
6. Add Evernote as one of the tools that I used daily and become part of my workflow

Living a digital lifestyle can be fun and effective. Learning how to use technology is a key to successfully implement digital lifestyle. Evernote is on of many tools, if used effectively can help you out in a long run.
