The Fault in Our Stars, The Movie and The Quotes

I read the Fault in Our Stars last June. I like the book and it was enough to make me want to watch the movie. And then finally today I got the chance to watch the movie and I think I cried a lot watching the movie compare to when I was reading the book. This story really give me new meaning now. When you have experience the death of someone that you love it kinda give you a different perspective. Death, either you are expecting it or not, it is still hurt. The lost felt real to me.

What do I think about the movie?
1. Go and watch them now. You will not regret it.
2. “I fell in love with him the way you fall asleep,” says Hazel of Gus. “Slowly, and then all at once. - A quote like this makes watching the movie totally worth it.
3. Shailene Woodley portray Hazel perfectly. I felt a little bit weird watching Shailene and Ansel as a couple after watching Divergent where they were sibling
4. This is definitely an emotional roller coaster ride for me especially when I already know the ending and I still cry
5. I will definitely watch this movie again and reread the book again

5 of my favourite Quotes from the movie / book

#1. "You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world. But you do have a say in who hurts you. I like my choices."

#2. "I fell in love the way you fall asleep. Slowly and the all at once."

#3." Okay" he said after forever. "Maybe okay will be our always."  "Okay"

#4."I'm in love with you and I'm not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things."

#5. "Some infinities are bigger than other infinities"

(photos credits: various sources from internet)

My take on the movie
When I watched Hazel read her eulogy to Gus, I finally understood. No matter how long or how little time that we have in this world, we will have infinite. I finally understood that there are so many numbers between 0 and 1, if we embrace every single number we might have infinite in our hand. Such a brilliant storytelling. The words really stuck to me.
Right now I am dealing with the death of my mother. I always felt like I want more time with her but the truth is I already have infinite with her. I was just too stupid or too naive to realise that.
I am so thankful for the little infinity that I have with her. I will remember her. She means the world to me. I love her deeply. And one day we might meet again in different world and form all together. This world is just temporary and what matter is we make the best of it, live hard and love hard.

Insurgent and Veronica Mars book review

Insurgent by Veronica Roth

 Untitled
I've read Divergent and watched the movie, so naturally I want to know what happened to Tobias and Tris.

What is this book about?
"Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so" excerpt from amazon.com

What do I think about the book?

- love the book cover
- It's very hard to keep track which faction they were in. Because this book is nothing but chaos.
- Tobias and Tris fought a lot in this book and I am not sure I like that
- the factionless ? I am not sure how they fit into all this
- so many death and so many new characters introduce here
- I am no sure if I like Tobias in this book but Christina I like
- I am not so sure I want to read Allegiant after reading Insurgent. I am not sure I want to know more about the world. Probably I will wait for the movie to come out.

** I recommend this book if you are into dsytopian world and really like Divergent. It is still a fun read.

Veronica Mars: the Thousand Dollars Tan Line by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham

After watching the movie, I just got to read this book. What's not to like about Veronica Mars, she's fun, witty and brilliant.

What is this book about?
"Ten years after graduating from high school in Neptune, California, Veronica Mars is back in the land of sun, sand, crime, and corruption. She's traded in her law degree for her old private investigating license, struggling to keep Mars Investigations afloat on the scant cash earned by catching cheating spouses until she can score her first big case.
Now it's spring break, and college students descend on Neptune, transforming the beaches and boardwalks into a frenzied, week-long rave. When a girl disappear from a party, Veronica is called in to investigate. But his is not simple missing person's case. The house the girl vanished from belongs to a man with serious criminal ties, and soon Veronica is plunged into a dangerous underworld of drugs and organized crime. And when a major break in the investigation has a shocking connection to Veronica's past, the case hits closer to home than she ever imagined" excerpt from goodreads.com

What do I think about the book?

- Veronica Mars a private detective again after leaving the field for 10 years. This got to be good.
- I like that she has her old gang working for her
- I wish Logan is in the book more, hopefully he will in the next book
- I am pleasantly surprise with how the book ends. Totally not what I expected.
- I secretly wish she would join the FBI for awhile and left the field after 10 years to work with her father again.. but law school also not bad

** I definitely recommend this book if you are a fan of Veronica Mars. You will not be disappointed. Totally worth it.

#30lists // 11. Things I finished (so far) this year

I have been a little bit busy these last few days. Staying busy is the only thing I have left to make sure that I do not go insane. As if I am trying so hard to be better and do be ok.

Anyway I am a little bit disappointed with Apple's announcement yesterday regarding iPhone 6. The design doesn't impress me as much as iPhone 5S did last year. The whole time I was thinking will iPhone 6 looked like this if Steve Job was still alive?

And what happened to the other product specifically iPod touch and Mac? They have been so quiet these last few years. I am still waiting for technology that will rock the world. Apple watch look promising but I am not sure how Malaysian will react to it.

Moving on to the lists for today.....

Kertas UPSR Bahasa Inggeris Bocor?!!!! Seriously???

Not a again??? Really???? UPSR PUN BOLEH BOCOR KE???? Urgh!!!!!! I feel like screaming and breaking something!!

Those were the feelings and the thoughts that came rushing through my mind right this moment. I know, I know I should not write a blog post while I am angry and disappointed. But these is just too much!!!!!!!

I am so disappointed with the system.  It's only UPSR and it's not a life or death situation. People are stupid enough to leak something like this and teach our children to cheat?!!!!
Seriously!!!?? Are we that kind of society who are willing to do what ever it takes just to be number one or to meet our set KPIs?? AGAIN SERIOUSLY??!!!!!!!

OK, OK, OK I NEED TO CALM DOWN. TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND BREATH. Everything happened for a reason. I know that. Those were the thoughts that run through my mind yesterday when they announced that UPSR Science paper postpone to September 30th. But now today ENGLISH Paper??? Then tomorrow they will announce that USPR candidates have to take the whole exam again on September 30th. The integrity of the whole education system has been compromise now. No one wants to get 5As like this.

Maybe the whole UPSR system should end a little bit earlier than planned.

As a mother of a USPR candidate, I am deeply frustrated and disappointed with the whole situation. What kind of advice or encouragement I should give to my kid? It's so hard to be objective. All I want to say to her are that exams doesn't dictate weather you are a good person or not, exam is just an exam and it's not life or death situation. Believe in ALLAH, Pray Hard, Pray for Guidance and Believe that Everything Happened for a Reason.

My other two kids are going to take another big exam at the end of the year - PK3 and SPM. I just hope that those people in charge learn from this and make sure that the same thing never ever happened AGAIN.

I THINK IT'S ABOUT TIME WE THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE TO ASSESS OUR KIDS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES. EXAM ALONE DOSEN'T SEEMS TO WORK ANYMORE.

#thursday3 [11.09.2014]

This week is a little bit interesting for me. It's a UPSR week for Standard 6 students and for me also as a mother to UPSR candidate. I took three days off just be with my daughter, to support her and be there for her. I'm like enjoying every minute of it. It kinda make me want to stay more at home.

HERE ARE MY PHOTO AND FACTS FOR THE WEEK

11092014

#1. I have finally finished reading Insurgent (Divergent) by Veronica Roth. It's the second book of Divergent series.

#2. I am listening to Mean Streak by Sandra Brown and reading The 9th Girl (Kovac and Liska) by Tami Hoag. I am loving them so far.

#3. One thing that suck is UPSR 2014 Exam paper for Science is postpone to 30th September  because there were complaints about the leak. Seriously?!!! How can that be? I just don't know what to say.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Think about it this way…If you take one picture and write down three facts each week — at the end of the year you’ll have more than 50 photos of yourself and 150 facts about what life has been like. It would make such an epic All About Me book — and most of the work is already done."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Follow along each week using the hashtag #thursday3 dan tagged me @hanizeyecandy. I want to see your selfie and read about you

My thoughts on iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch

I was so excited to watch Apple Announcement yesterday that I marked the date on my calendar. In my mind I was imagining Apple announce something new, exciting and out of this world kind of technology. Something that will change my life for the better.

I got to say that I was a little bit disappointed. The event webcast was more than one hour long and I felt like that they didn't say much. At least not something that makes my heart beat faster nor something that makes me drool over. I was totally excited last year when they announced iPhone 5S. I was hooked and drool over it. But now.... all I can say is hemmm..... am I watching Apple event? It felt somehow empty and soulless. And this makes me miss Steve Job. At least he was crazy enough to dream of something crazy and something that people have not yet thought off.

Will I buy an iPhone 6?

1. If I have the money for it , why not but I am not totally obsess with it.
2. I am always a sucker for a great camera. So I am totally loving the new camera and that might be the only reason I might upgrade my phone
3. I like the idea of Apple Pay but the name was horrible. Cashless society is the dream now but weather it will pick up in Malaysia is yet to be seen.
4. iOS8 is a plus but I think I would enjoy the same experience with iPhone 5S
5. I can understand why Apple release the bigger screen because there are some people who want bigger screen. As for me 4" is perfect enough so 4.7" might be bigger for me. hemmm..
6. They got rid of 32GB model and sell 64GB model at lower price. That is a plus for me because I think 32GB is a little bit small for me.
7. I don't think there's any other new exciting features in this new phone

Will I buy Apple Watch?

1. If I have the money why not. But I think it's a little bit expensive because the watch need iPhone to work
2. I like the customisable watch face
3. I also like the health features that comes with the watch. It might be useful for a health nut like me
4. I don't think I like the other features on this watch.

I am wondering what will happen to iPod and iPad. Will these two devices be obsolete since now apple already launch the bigger iPhone and a watch?

What do you think about these new devices?
Will you upgrade your phone?
Will you buy the Apple watch?

September TBR

August wasn't a good reading month for me. I didn't get a chance to read as much as I would have like. I am hoping that September will be better in terms of reading. I am taking a few days off in September, hopefully I can read a lot during that time.

sept-TBR

Books To Be Read in September

#1. Insurgent (Divergent, Book 2) (Divergent Series) by Veronica Roth
"One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love." excerpt from amazon.com

#2. Veronica Mars: An Original Mystery by Rob Thomas: The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham
"Ten years after graduating from high school in Neptune, California, Veronica Mars is back in the land of sun, sand, crime, and corruption. She’s traded in her law degree for her old private investigating license, struggling to keep Mars Investigations afloat on the scant cash earned by catching cheating spouses until she can score her first big case. Now it’s spring break, and college students descend on Neptune, transforming the beaches and boardwalks into a frenzied, week-long rave. And when a major break in the investigation has a shocking connection to Veronica’s past, the case hits closer to home than she ever imagined" excerpt from amazon.com

#3. The Silkworm (A Cormoran Strike Novel) by Robert Galbriath
"When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days-as he has done before-and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realizes. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were to be published, it would ruin lives-meaning that there are a lot of people who might want him silenced. When Quine is found brutally murdered under bizarre circumstances, it becomes a race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any Strike has encountered before... A compulsively readable crime novel with twists at every turn, THE SILKWORM is the second in the highly acclaimed series featuring Cormoran Strike and his determined young assistant, Robin Ellacott" excerpt from amazon.com

#4. Mean Streak by Sandra Brown
"Dr. Emory Charbonneau, a pediatrician and marathon runner, disappears on a mountain road in North Carolina. By the time her husband Jeff, miffed over a recent argument, reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. Literally. Fog and ice encapsulate the mountainous wilderness and paralyze the search for her. While police suspect Jeff of "instant divorce," Emory, suffering from an unexplained head injury, regains consciousness and finds herself the captive of a man whose violent past is so dark that he won't even tell her his name. She's determined to escape him, and willing to take any risks necessary to survive. Unexpectedly, however, the two have a dangerous encounter with people who adhere to a code of justice all their own. At the center of the dispute is a desperate young woman whom Emory can't turn her back on, even if it means breaking the law. Wrong becomes right at the hands of the man who strikes fear, but also sparks passion." excerpt from amazon.com

#5. To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
"Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren’t love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she’s written. One for every boy she’s ever loved—five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control." excerpt from amazon.com

#6. The 9th Girl (Kovac and Liska) by Tami Hoag [Need to read this book this month-- I might look for the audiobook for this one]
"On a frigid New Year’s Eve in Minneapolis, a young woman is found brutally murdered—the ninth so far this year in a string of grisly slayings. Homicide detectives Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska fear that it’s the work of a serial killer they call Doc Holiday, a transient who has brought his gruesome game to a new and more terrifying level. But as Kovac and Liska uncover the truth, they find that the monsters in the ninth girl’s life may live closer to home. And even as another young woman disappears, they have to ask the question: Which is the greater evil—the devil you know or the devil you don’t?" excerpt from amazon.com

#1. Insurgent (Divergent, Book 2) (Divergent Series) by Veronica Roth
Not so sure if I like the book. It got so many things going on and lots of movement - jumping from one factions to the next. Very hard to keep track.

#2. Mean Streak by Sandra Brown -- just started with this book. Not sure what to expect but I've always love Sandra Brown book

That is all for now. How is your Eid celebration? Do you have fun? Do you still make time to read during the holiday?

Project Life [ Week Thirty Five]

Making myself busy in Week 35 seems to be number one on my to do list. I need to stay busy and I need to be busy. I felt like if I stop for just a moment I might cry and fall apart. I can't afford to fall apart. My kids needs me especially now. My daughter is taking her big exam today (UPSR) and I have to be there for her emotionally and mentally. Life amazingly enough does move on weather you want them to or not.

5 tips for UPSR students (from a mother point of view)

Tomorrow all Standard 6 students will sit for the biggest exams in all of their primary school years. It's the exam that will determine which school they go to next year base on their academic achievement. Since the exam is tomorrow and it's a little bit late to do anything else, these are 5 things that you can do that will make a big different.

5 things you can do on the night before in no particular order:

1. Kiss and hug your mother. Ask for her forgiveness
2. Solah hajat and solah taubat - ask for Allah forgiveness
3. Dua'as and recite Quran to calm yourself
4. Make sure you have all the necessary stationary for the exam
5. Believe in yourself. You have done everything you possibly can to prepare for the big day.
